Y Peeler
Peeler Design
Design Overview :
When we first took on this project, we started with research—specifically, a deep dive into how people actually use a Y-peeler. A quick search led me to something surprising: Y-peelers are designed to be held a certain way, using three fingers—the thumb, index, and middle finger. we had never realized this before, and I suspected most users hadn’t either.
With this in mind, we began designing around that intended grip. But when the first prototype arrived, we handed it to different people to see how they would naturally hold it. To my surprise, no one instinctively used the "correct" grip. Even after explaining it, most stuck to what felt right for them.
At that moment, the design direction shifted. Instead of forcing an ideal grip, we embraced real-world usage. The goal became clear: design a peeler that works intuitively—however someone chooses to hold it.
The result is the Y-peeler you see here. It’s adaptable, comfortable, and compact enough to fit seamlessly into any kitchen space.

Design Overview :
We began this project by researching how people use Y-peelers and discovered they’re meant to be held with three fingers. But when we tested our prototype, no one used the “correct” grip—even after we explained it.
So we changed direction. Instead of designing for an ideal, we designed for real life. The result is a Y-peeler that’s intuitive, comfortable, and fits naturally into any kitchen.
